2nd Colombian Film Festival

“El día de la Cabra’ (Bad Lucky Goat) is a 2017 Colombian film directed by Samir Oliveros. The film focused on reconciliation, no matter the disagreement of two or more individuals, when there is a need to achieve a goal or a vision, there’s a need to reconcile for the betterment of finding a solution. That is what happened to Rita and Corn in the film (After accidentally hitting a goat with their father's truck, Rita and Corn, two incompatible young brother and sister, embark on an adventure to try to get enough money to repair the truck. This trip will become a reconciliation experience for both).

Before the movie started, Ms. Valarie Sandra Johnson, the Special Assistant to the Honorary Consul gives brief information about the Country Colombia and some major facts. She also give the significant of the film as it relate to the upcoming senatorial and by-elections (the elections was held the next day). Ms. Johnson encouraged the students that no matter which political groups they find themselves in, Liberia comes first and finding a solution in time of conflict is key.

A remark was made by Dr. Kerkula Foeday, Chairman of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. Dr. Foeday acknowledged the Consulate for hosting such event with students of the University and hope that there be regular event of such and more opportunities for students to have more interaction with the Republic of Colombia.

The event was attended by the Chairman of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, the Student’s Leadership, and the students. The attendance was approximately 75 persons. Due to the COVID-19 situation in the country, there was social distancing during the process.

At the end of the film, these were the views from students:

“I saw love between Corn and Rita. When her brother was missing, she tries all she can just to find him.” “When they hit the goat, the truck front got damaged. They had to work together to find money and pay for the fixing."

Many expressed how educative the film was and look forward of seeing more of such event.
